Norma Jean Allen
Norma Jean Allen was born on February 6, 1957 to Chester and Ida Mae Jones Allen. She was the fourth of six children.
Norma lived in Bakersfield all her life. She attended Fremont Elementary School, Lincoln Jr. High School and Bakersfield High School. She was a graduated of the class of 1975.
After graduating from high school, Norma was employed at Kern Medical Center as a cook. She remained there for over 27 years and became a Cook II. Her recipes were better than the ones in the book. She put so much love into her cooking that doctors and staff would specifically ask for HER to cook their food.
Norma had her one and only child, Andrea Smith (Cetha) whom she loved and cherished dearly. They were Best Friends and loved to take care of each other. Norma's love made Andrea into a strong woman. Norma's work ethics were passed onto her daughter who followed her mother's footsteps. Andrea also loves to cook and she too works in the food industry.
Norma was blessed with the gift of grandchildren. She spent so much time with them and spoiled them rotten. In her eyes, they could do no wrong. DJ would always say, "You're the Best Granny Ever." That would make her day every time.
Norma loved to host every event at her house, Easter, Labor Day, Thanksgiving or Birthdays. She just loved to cook and call everyone over to eat. Her family meant everything to her. She always had an open door. Family and friends were free to come, visit and eat at her house at all times. In addition, she had a special nephew, Jason, who was her own personal chauffeur. Furthermore, Norma loved to travel. Her favorite places were the Ocean and Las Vegas.
As an adult she was baptized at St. Peters Restoration Community Church under Pastor Oscar Anthony. She later reunited at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Hiawatha T. Calhoun.
