Peggy Ann Douglas

Peggy Ann (Perry) Douglas was born in Wewoka, Oklahoma on October 21, 1937, to Owen and Palestine Perry. Peggy was a loving, thoughtful and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Peggy accepted Christ at an early age and later united with Valley Bible Fellowship. She attended Lincoln Elementary/Jr. High School graduated from Bakersfield High School and also attended Bakersfield College. On June 8, 1957, Peggy married Raymond Douglas and three children were born.

Peggy was a trailblazer. She was proud of her accomplishment of being a part of history as the 2nd black majorette at BHS. She worked for Lerners Department Store and was the 1st black salesperson and cashier for a department store in downtown Bakersfield. In 1968, Peggy retired from being a bookkeeper at Bank of America to stay at home and raise her children.

Peggy was the family historian and a thoughtful person who remembered everyone's birthday and always sent cards. She was philanthropic, consistently giving to organizations that were near and dear to her heart. She also loved being a part of the Cal State Women's Club.

On Monday, August 15, 2016, Peggy quietly passed on to eternal peace with her family by her side. She is preceded in death by her parents, Owen and Palestine Perry; brothers, Grover Perry and Charles Perry; Those left to celebrate her life and cherish her memory are her husband of 59 years, Raymond Douglas; her daughters Gail Douglas, Rene Ashley (Dean), her son Raymond Douglas Jr. (Rose); special cousin, Bernice Jones; her sister -in-laws, Elouise Perry, Gloria George Ramos and Patricia Perry; 8 grandchildren, Kamario Amos, Aaliyah Beed, Jesse Beed Jr., Owen Douglas, Janelle Gash (Jovan), Jeanette Douglas, Jeannine Douglas and Jeremiah Douglas; 2 great-grandchildren, Zaylah Rene "Peyton" Dean, Levi Varnado; and lots of nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.

Services are scheduled for Saturday, August 27, 2016 - 9:00 A.M at New Life Church 4201 Stine Road Bakersfield, Ca., Reverend Ralph Anthony, Officiating. Visitation 5 to 8 P.M. Friday, August 26, 2016, at Basham Funeral Care, 3312 Niles St, Bakersfield, CA 93306.
