PHYLLIS "CALDERON" ZARAGOZA
JUNE 6, 1954 - JANUARY 24, 2022
Phyllis "Calderon" Zaragoza was born in Bakersfield
California on June 6, 1954, to James Calderon Sr. and
Carmen "Santos" Calderon.
Phyllis accepted Christ at an early age and was a
faithful servant of The Lord.
She attended Guadalupe Catholic School for
elementary and Junior High. And graduated from
Bakersfield High School in 1972.
Phyllis lived everyday to please The Almighty, she was
a dedicated and faithful prayer warrior. You would
often see her reading the bible or she would be on
Facebook sending prayers and words of
encouragement to her loved ones. Prayer and faith are
what Phyllis lived by.
Her two favorite prayers were, "The Lord's Prayer"
and "The Serenity Prayer"
Phyllis had a mission in this life; and she fulfilled it
above and beyond. That mission, to love and guide you
to the love of Christ through her heartfelt examples.
Time and time again her gentle caring spirit fed not
only the physically hungry, but the emotionally
hungry, sheltered the scared and weary. She was the
shoulder you could lean on, the ear that would listen,
and she protected those in need without judgement.
Phyllis loved her family and friends unconditionally.
Her grandchildren were the apple of her eye. Family
gatherings, cookouts, and family photos put the
biggest smile on her beautiful face and in her heart.
Phyllis was truly heaven sent; she was our angel on earth
For many years, Phyllis worked at Martin Luther King Jr.
Park (Bakersfield City Park and Recreations). Her legacy in
the community begun at this park. She enjoyed meeting and
interacting with people from all walks of life. She touched a
lot of hearts.
Phyllis loved arts and craft. She enjoyed making keychains,
sewing, putting together jigsaw puzzles, doing crossword
puzzles.
Phyllis wore plenty of hats, but "Moms" was her favorite.
She loved her children with every fiber, but not only hers,
her extended family as well, her bonus children.
Phyllis also loved butterflies, Betty Boop, and riding around
listening to oldies but goodies. But most of all, she LOVED
without condition.
Preceding her in death are her parents James Calderon Sr.
And Carmen "Santos" Calderon, her cousin Patty Barrenos,
and her best friend Martha Owens.
Phyllis leaves behind with love: Her children George
Zaragoza (Bakersfield, Ca.), Phillip Zaragoza (Bakersfield,
Ca.), Felicia Wills (San Bernardino, Ca.), Rosanna Wills (San
Bernardino, Ca.), Michelle Wills (Bakersfield, Ca.). Her
