Rachel Campas

December 6, 1961 — March 10, 2018

Rachel Campas December 6, 1961 - March 10, 2018

Rachel Campas, 56, passed away Saturday, March 10, at home, surrounded by family and dear friends. Born and raised in East Bakersfield to Ramona Contreras and David Villarreal, she was the 6th of 7 daughters. As a child she was free spirited, adventurous, and could often be found roller skating, riding her bike, or climbing trees in her neighborhood. She attended Noble Elementary, Washington Junior High and finally EBHS, making friends everywhere she went, many of which lasted her lifetime.

Following high school she married Julio Campas and had 3 children. She devoted the next 20 years of her life to her family, keeping a beautiful home and volunteering with her children's many activities. She spent several years serving as PTA president, girl scout troop leader, band backer, and football booster. She became a CNA in order to take care of her mother when she fell ill, and continued to work as a hospice caregiver long after she passed away.

Rachel was a devout Catholic who found much strength and comfort in God's love and grace. She was a great cook, known especially for her enchiladas, rice and beans. She loved to read, spend time at the beach, watch old films and Hallmark channel movies. She loved Christmas; the entire month of December her home would be decorated inside and out, with Christmas music playing and lots of baking in the kitchen. She loved being a grandma, and nothing made her happier than spending time with Annabel, Dimitri, and Francesca.

Rachel was preceded in death by her parents and one granddaughter. She is survived by her husband, 3 children, 3 grandchildren, 6 sisters, and many nieces and nephews. Although she will be profoundly missed, her family finds great comfort in knowing that she is no longer in pain and has been reunited with her loved ones on the other side.

Funeral services will be held at Christ the King Church at 10 am on Friday, April 6th, 2018. Visitation will be at Basham Funeral Home on Niles from 5-9 pm on Thursday, April 5th, with a rosary recitation at 7pm.
