Rachel Romero Garcia 1944-2021
An angel arrived in heaven on February 25th. Rachel was born on November 2, 1944 in Bakersfield, California where she lived most her life. She graduated from East Bakersfield High and attended Bakersfield College. She was young when she married Cruz Carrasco and together, they had four children. She worked as a Teacher's Aide at Freemont Elementary and later began a 25-year career with Pacific Bell. She spent her last 5 years with the phone company in Sacramento and retired in 2001, to return home with her family. She spent 10 years working for the Kern County Sheriff's Department and in her retirement, she found joy as a crossing guard interacting with the children. Rachel enjoyed family gatherings and spending time with her many friends. She was the life of the party and always had a good joke to tell. She enjoyed her daily crossword puzzle and reading her Bible. She loved to discuss politics and encouraged her kids and grandkids to vote. She was dedicated to her church and volunteer work and was always lending a helping hand. She was baptized in the name of Jesus Christ in 2013 and was a faithful believer. She will be remembered for her fun and vivacious spirit, contagious laugh, generosity, and immense strength. She is preceded in death by her mother and father, Olegario & Isabel Garcia, bother, Timothy Garcia, brother-in-law, Danny Gamboa and nephew, Marc Villareal. Rachel is survived by her sisters, Esther Torres, Norma Gamboa, Tricia Garcia and brother Frankie Garcia. Her four children, Bernie (Sally) Carrasco, Vicki (Ricardo) Rios, Anna (Richard) Acedo and Jeannie (Brian) Bertolaccini. Her 11 grandchildren, Kurt, Jakob, Brandon, Melissa, Ashley, Dominic, Carly, Blake, Brianne, Alexa, & Mason. Along with 13 great-grandchildren. She was loved by all who knew her and will be deeply missed. Visitation will be held at Basham Funeral Care, 3312 Niles on March 14th from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Services will be held Monday, March 15th at Basham Funeral Care at 1:00. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.
