Refugio Villalobos "Cuco" De León
July 4, 1921-January 6, 2017
America's Greatest Generation is one less today.
Refugio Villalobos De León was born to Juan and Josefa De León on July 4, 1921 and reunited with his beloved wife Rosa in Heaven on January 6, 2017 at the age of 95. Refugio passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. Refugio, or "Cuco" as he was affectionately known, was born in Peoria, Arizona. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great- grandfather, and respected friend.
After honorably serving his country in WWII, Refugio moved to Di Giorgio, CA to resume his family commitment by working alongside them in the agricultural fields of Lamont and Arvin. Grateful for the move, it was here where he met the love of his life, Rosa Ramírez. After a short courtship they married and settled in Lamont, CA and raised their four children.
In the subsequent years, Refugio, through his deep Catholic faith, love of family, community, and country, exemplified discipline, patience, and perseverance. This earned him a lifetime of respect from family, friends, and community, which meant so much to him.
What Refugio held nearest and dearest to his heart were his faith, family, friends, and the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Refugio is preceded in death by his wife, Rosa; parents, Juan and Josefa; sisters, Maurilia, Cecilia, and Dolores; brothers, Juan Jr., and Trinidad; grandchildren Adam Garcia and Jesse Barron Jr.
Refugio is survived by his daughters, Pat Barron and Diana (Gary) Lopez; sons, Roy De León and Danny (Berta) De León; and siblings, Claro De León, Margarita De León, and Guadalupe Hernández. Refugio's family legacy continues with 12 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
