Robert Neil Edgar Jr.

April 9, 1956 — October 9, 2024

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Robert “Bob” Neil Edgar Jr., loving husband, devoted father, proud papa, dedicated veteran, and cherished friend. Robert passed away peacefully at home on October 9, 2024, at the age of 68, surrounded by the family he loved so dearly.

Born on April 9, 1956, in Birmingham, Alabama, to TSGT Robert Sr. and Helen Edgar, Robert grew up in a military family which instilled a deep sense of responsibility and service. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he proudly served his country with honor for 10 years. He spent most of his enlisted years serving on the USS Coral Sea and the USS Enterprise. He ended the rest of his service years stationed at Lemoore Naval Air Station. It’s while he was stationed at Lemoore NAS, he met the love of his life, when he told her “you stole my chair” … 3 children and 44 years later, the rest is history.

Following his time in the Navy he began his career in 1986 in the oil industry working for Shell Oil as part of a team pioneering field automation until his retirement from Area Energy in 2017. He loved his time with Shell and Area and all the friends and memories he made during his 30 years in that industry. His favorite memories where Dave Johnson drive way too fast through those hills, the times he got called out in the middle of the night and had to tow all his kids with him, and Friday morning breakfast with his coworkers.

Robert married the love of his life, Sharon, in 1982 and together they shared 42 beautiful years of marriage. He was a steadfast and supportive husband, and together they built a family that was the center of his world. Robert was a loving father to his three children, Kristen, Michelle, and Steven, and a proud “Papa” to his five grandchildren, Addison, Silas, Vincent, Logan, and Charlotte who were his pride and joy.

In addition to his love for family and country, Robert was known for his warm, easygoing nature and his ability to make friends wherever he went. His friends will remember him for his loyalty, sense of humor, and the countless stories he shared.

Robert is survived by his loving wife, Sharon; his children, Kristen (Alex) Dion and Michelle Bishop and Steven Edgar; his beloved grandchildren, Addison, Silas, Charlotte, Vincent, and Logan; his sisters, Leslie Rodrigues and Laura (Adam) Gagneaux; his Aunt Carolyn (David) Spain and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

He is proceeded in death by his father TSGT Robert Neil Edgar Sr, his mother Helen Nell Edgar, his brother FCC Michael David Edgar, his brother Alan Dale Edgar, his grandfather Orman Rudolph Edgar, his grandmother Gladys Elaine Edgar, his grandfather Samuel Jackson Malone, his Nanie Mae Malone, his father-in-law William Jasper Albertson, and his mother-in-law Margaret Joan Albertson.

A celebration of Robert’s life will be held on Friday, November 8, 2024, at 11:30 AM at Valley Baptist Church on Fruitvale Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project - Donate or to your preferred local veterans association in Robert's memory. If you make a donation, please let us know in the comment section so we can acknowledge.

Though Robert is no longer with us, his legacy of love, service, and friendship will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to know him. He will be missed deeply but remembered fondly for the kindness and strength he brought to the lives he touched.
