"Bob"
1935 - 2017
Bob went to be with our Lord February 27, 2017. His life began in Willmar, MN. Born to Julia and Melvin Paulsness, the youngest of 4 children. At an early age the family moved to Sioux Falls, SD, where he spent his early years. While attending Washington High School he discovered his locker was right next to someone he was really interested in. She was Beverly, who became his wife in 1954 and have shared 62 wonderful years together.
Bob was drafted into the Army in 1958 and so began a 20 year Army career. He had 3 tours of duty to Germany, one in Vietnam, 1968-1969; served in the "101st Air Calvary" as an Artillery surveyor, mostly by helicopter. Bob also was an Army recruiter in Bakersfield, starting in 1972 for a few years. He calls Bakersfield home. He retired from the Army in 1979 as S.F.C. After that he worked for Golden Empire Transit for about 13 years.
Bob has been a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church for many years. He loved sports, especially the L.A. Lakers and Dallas Cowboys. There was nothing he wouldn't try to fix or make.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly; son Daniel (Stacey); daughter, Jill Hahs (Mark): 7 grandchildren, Micah, Britttany, Jeremiah, Lora, Blaire, Paige, Brenner and Jerrome.
Graveside Service with military honors will be held Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at 10:45 a.m. at Bakersfield National Cemetery (30338 E Bear Mountain Blvd). All are invited. Also to a reception at his home after this approximately 1:00 p.m.
