Robert (Bob) J. Valenzuela, Sr. April 14, 1928 - February 2, 2018

Robert J. Valenzuela Sr., Age 89, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home on February 2, 2018, in Bakersfield, California. Robert was born in San Diego, California and his family moved to Winslow, Arizona. Robert married the love of his life Charlotte Jaramillo for a wonderful 48 years. Then they moved to San Bernardino and finally moved to Bakersfield, California where he worked with Santa Fe Railroad. He then went to college at B.C. for accounting. He was a manager at Davenport Typewriter Company for many years. He had his own business as a Bookkeeper and Notary at his home on Center Street. He also worked for six Veteran Organizations as a Bookkeeper, Secretary, Treasurer, Etc. Robert J. Valenzuela Sr. was in the U.S. Army and founder of the 82nd Airborne and obtained the original Charter of the San Joaquin Valley Chapter on May 28, 1988. He was instrumental in the organization and initial operation of the Charter, serving as the Chapter Chairman 1988, 89, & 90, and was one of the original Life Members of the Chapter. He entered the military at the age of 15 1/2 during World War II and served as an automatic rifleman with the 82nd Airborne Division. He served with C/2/504th, 82nd Airborne Division, 6th Air Rescue Unit from November 18, 1943 to March 16, 1946 and Europe: May 30th, 1945 to February 2, 1946. Without his initial efforts there would be no San Joaquin Valley Chapter. Robert J. Valenzuela Sr. was in the Theater of Combat in Germany, Normandy, and Holland. Robert is survived by his two daughters Christine Ramos and Corrine (Cory) Rodriguez (Oscar) and son Gilbert Valenzuela; He is also survived by 5 Grandchildren and 10 Great-Grandchildren and a host of Nephews and Nieces. Robert was preceded in death by his wife Charlotte Valenzuela, son Robert J. Valenzuela Jr., sisters Esther Luna and Angela Martinez. And brothers Benjamin (Tony) Valenzuela Sr. and Ramon Valenzuela Jr. His loving mother and father Ramon Valenzuela Sr. and Francisca Araiza Valenzuela. Heartfelt thanks to the caregivers at Procare Hospice for all care that they provided for our father. All services will be held in Bakersfield, California. Rosary and Viewing will be held at Basham Funeral Care, 3312 Niles St. on Thursday, February 15, 2018 from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M., Friday, February 16, 2018, Mass will be at St. Joseph's Church, 1515 Baker St. at 10:00 A.M. followed by Burial at Greenlawn Cemetery, 3700 River Blvd.
