Socorro T. Matta

 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Socorro Matta, 70, who left this world peacefully on September 22, 2024, at Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Socorro Matta was born on December 20th, 1953, in Brawley, California, the daughter of Alejandro Mendez and Manuela Teniente. She grew up in Brawley, and moved to Shafter, where she became a pilar of strength and wisdom. She Touched the lives of countless people with her kindness, generosity, and unwavering love. Socorro was passionate about family unity and especially proud of her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was the family matriarch and enjoyed hosting celebrations like birthdays and holidays at her home. She was well-known for her delicious cooking and annual tradition of tamale making which brought warmth and joy to family gatherings. Her recipes will be cherished for generations to come. Throughout her life Socorro was best known for her positivity, generosity, and strong bonds formed with friends. She always made herself available to listen to family or friends experiencing hardships and offer not only advice but assistance, oftentimes prioritizing their needs before her own. Family and close friends knew better than to knock before entering her home. When friends and family visited Socorro, it was like coming home to moms, no matter who you were. Socorro Matta was a dearly loved partner, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend to many. She is survived by her longtime partner of over forty years, Tomas Gonzalez, her children Robert, Mary, and Araceli her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Socorro is preceded in death by her beloved son Raymond. A funeral service will be held at St. Therese Catholic Church 300 W Lerdo Hwy at 10 am Friday October 11th. A Visitation will be held at Basham & Lara Funeral Care, 343 State Ave., Shafter at 5 pm Thursday, October 10th . Funeral service friday at St. Therese catholic church (300 West Lerdo Hwy shafter, ca) at 10:00 A.M Folllowing Burial  at Shafter Cemetery and the family will be greeting friends and relatives at Basham & Lara Funeral Care at 1230 pm Friday following the burial.
