Soledad (Sally) "Sally" Garcia Ornelas

Born October 7, 1924 and life time resident of Bakersfield and Buttonwillow, Soledad also known as Sally passed away on Friday January 17, 2020. Sally was preceded in death by husband Damas Q. Ornelas, WW II Veteran and retired Bakersfield High School employee, parents Victoria and Ramon Garcia, brothers Cayetano, Reuben and Tony Garcia. Sally was a seamstress specializing in mending/repairing, retired from Sparkle's Cleaners and was a proud homemaker. Survived by daughters Teresa Ornelas, Olivia Leca, Lydia Perez, Irma Ornelas and her brother Eddie Garcia. Eight grandchildren: Alicia Cooper Hill, Priscilla Zavala, Angela Leca, Jennifer Perez, Deanna Marsh, Katrina Perez, Francesca Alvarado, and Denney Suniga. Great Grandchildren: Wrenna Cooper, Antonio Leca, Elyssa Leca, Jose Zavala, Diego Zavala, Jordyn Bailey, Alfonso Gomez, Isaac Gomez, Adonna Marsh, Kaylee Juarez, and Dominic Juarez. Son- in- laws Manuel Perez and David Hill. Numerous special cousins, nieces and nephews. Special acknowledgement to Irma Ornelas, Sally's youngest daughter who was with mom for the last 30 years with loving care and devotion. To Jennifer Perez, eldest granddaughter who prayed with mom bringing love and comfort. To daughter Teresa and son-in-law David who were mom's Gibraltar from the house fire to its complete restoration and always being available to help. To brother Eddie, daughters Olivia and Lydia, great granddaughters Deanna, Priscilla who accompanied mom with love and compassion until her final days. To nieces Lori G. Marquez, Cynthia G. Rodriquez and nephews Barney and Philip Garcia who Sally loved and cared for in younger years and watched grow up. To Sally's one grandson Denney who she helped to raise and loved deeply. Sally was a member of the Bakersfield Community House, St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Las Guadalupanas. Her hobbies included exercise thru her 90's, crocheting, cooking tamales annually, her yard, plants and sewing. A prayer warrior Sally will be missed for her sense of humor and devotion to her family. She was a courageous individual who never gave up. Funeral arrangements by Bashum Funeral Care, Bakersfield. Services on Wed Jan 29, 2020 beginning at 10 am with private viewing/ 11:30 rosary. Mass at noon at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 1515 Baker St, Bakersfield. Service officiated by Reverend Jesus Renaga. Soloist Rodrigo Vasquez accompanied by organist Rosemary Ryan will perform at the mass. Funeral will be held at Union Cemetery, 730 Potomac Ave, Bakersfield, CA 93307 following the mass.
