Sophia Sliter, 72, was born on March 20, 1944 in Bakersfield, Ca to Diego and Jenny Romero and was called home peacefully to dwell in God's grace and peace on September 3, 2016.Sophia was born and raised in Bakersfield, Ca, graduated from Graces Memorial High School in 1962, and Bakersfield College in 1964; she then began working for the Bakersfield City School District in 1969, and retired after 40 years of service as a school secretary.Sophia married Wayne in 1966 and together they raised 6 children. As the family matriarch she was known for her kindness, generosity and love for others. Her passions included shopping, traveling, gardening, going to the movies, watching Broadway plays, spending time with her loved ones and caring for her dogs. She was known for her annual Christmas Eve party where she made her famous once a year Tamales. Through her faith she dedicated her time at St. Francis Church and taught at the CCD program.Sophia is preceded in death by her Parents and late husband Lywaine Sliter, survived by their children Danny (Cathy), Mark (Carrie), Traci Juarez (Benny), Kellee Anderson (Billy), Matthew (Maureen), Christina (Armando Puente), 19 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, siblings : John, David and Michael Romero, Rachael Stinnett, Val Barron and Jane Romero, cousins, numerous nieces, nephews, God Children, Family and Friends.The Family gives thanks to Rachel Stinnett, Michael and Sylvia and Johnny and Sylvia for their special prayers of hope and love, as well as Josie, Lucy and Rosie for their everlasting bond and to Monsignor Craig for his love and guidance.The family gives a special thanks to her daughter - Traci, Benny, Mallory and Nico for being such loving caregivers to our mother.The Family asks, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ALS Association (Kern) under team "Always Loving Sophia".Rosary and viewing will held September 13th 6pm at St. Francis Church. Mass will be held September 14th 9am at St. Francis Church followed by grave site services at Greenlawn Southwest Cemetery.
