The Alumni Band is saddened by the loss of a fellow Alumni Steven Mettler. Steve graduated in 1988 and was considered one of the best saxophone players who ever went to Arvin High. Shortly after he graduated, he became the assistant band director for the Arvin High Band while getting his teaching credentials for music education. After a few years he took a break from education to play on various cruise ships professionally and traveling all over the world! After a few years he eventually returned to his education. He continued to perform professionally in and around the Bakersfield area. After he received his degree, he became the music director for West High School for many years. For the last few years Steve has returned home to be the music director for the local grammar schools here in Arvin. Steve was a part of the formation of the Arvin High Alumni Band back in 2007 and over the years participated in a few of our events. We will all miss Steven and hearing him playing the sax! He's now going to be keeping the music alive up in heaven!

Steven is survived by his mother, Pauli Mettler; companion, Norma Beiber; sister, Kristi Wren (Carl); uncle, Troy Jackson; Aunt Donna Shafer; nephews, Cameron Wren, Austin Wren (Felicia), Jonathon Wren (Sara); great nephews, Carson Wren, Hudson Wren and Noah Wren. He is also survived by numerous cousins, other relatives and friends.
