Theresa Rose Mora

December 20, 1928 — January 12, 2022

Theresa Rose Mora, age 93, passed away from Alzheimer’s on 1/12/22 at her home in the presence of loved ones. Theresa was born in Bakersfield, CA, to Emiliano and Maria Casimira Barron in December 1928. Theresa grew up in Bakersfield and attended local schools. She obtained an Associate of Arts degree at Bakersfield College. She worked as a seamstress, in retail, and was most recently employed by the Fairfax School District. Although she retired at age 58, she continued to work on-call for an additional 20 years. She worked tirelessly with migrant farm worker families and made sure to drop off food baskets and supplies seasonally. She had a beautiful spirit and gave her time and energy not only to her children and grandchildren, but to countless others. Theresa married her soul mate, Ruben R. Mora, in Bakersfield at the age of 22. They were happily married for nearly 45 years before he preceded her in death. Ruben and Theresa were members of the Comite de Beneficencia #6 and the Sociedad Juarez. She later became an auxiliary member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles where she held the title of Grandmother. She enjoyed dancing, sewing, and teaching. She taught catechism at the San Clemente Mission and ballet folklorico at Virginia Avenue School. For the past 13 years, Theresa was afflicted with Alzheimer’s. Theresa was preceded in death by her parents, Emiliano and Maria C. Barron, brothers George, Joe, Salvador, Mike, and Tony Barron, sisters Jessie Marquez, Lupe Valdez, Josie Moreno, Annie Rojas, and Peggy Barron. She is survived by her children, Rosemary Matherly (Paul), Ruth, Annette, and Rudy Mora; three grandchildren JR Rodriguez (Martha), Jazmin Mora, and Robert Rodriguez; two great-grandsons Jimmy and Simon Rodriguez; two sisters Frances Contreras and Helen Barron Lopez; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to acknowledge Anita Chavez for her loving care and companionship as Theresa’s caregiver. A private funeral service will be held. The family plans to schedule a mass and celebration of life at a future date.
