Vernie Lee Parrott, Sr.
September 11, 1928 - November 9, 2017
Graveside services will be held at 11:30 A.M. on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at Hillcrest Memorial Park, 9101 Kern Canyon Rd., for Vernie Lee Parrott, who went to see Jesus on November 9, 2017. Vernie was born September 11, 1928 in Alex, Oklahoma to Selmer and Lavell Parrott. Vernie went to Vineland school near Arvin during the Dust bowl Era, then graduated from Bakersfield High School. He worked as a Meat Cutter and owned Central Cold Storage in Shafter, and then worked for Vincent's Market and finally retired from Von's. Vernie met Doris Chandler and they were married in 1947. In 70 years of marriage, Vernie was a devoted father to Vernie Jr., Mark, and Dennis, and a proud grandfather to Elyce, Aimee, Laura, Karen, Debbie, and David. He took special joy in holding great-grandchildren as 16 came along. He loved teaching them to fish. Going to Kern City community center and playing Pinochle was one of his favorite pasttimes. Vernie enjoyed being a Sunday school teacher, bible study leader, and scout master. God blessed Vernie with a large family and many friends. He was preceded in death by his mom and dad Selmer and Lavell Parrott, his brother Bill Parrott, his sister Leona Cherry, his son Mark, and his great-grandson Emmett. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Doris and also his sister-in-law, Joyce Bragg, and all of his family. Thank you everyone for your love and support during Vernie's fight with Parkinson's disease, particularly the staff and nurses who cared for him at Evergreen Acute Care, and all the wonderful staff at Optimal Hospice Care.
