Versie Callahan Pipkins was born on Sept. 24, 1930, in Texarkana, Texas
to Lessie and Franklin Callahan. When she was a child, her family moved to
Shreveport, Louisiana where she was educated. Afterwards, she moved to
Bakersfield, California in 1954.
She was proceeded in death by her mother and father, her brothers
P.W and Franklin Callahan Jr., her daughter Vanessa Stewart, her son Terry
Callahan and her grandson Christopher Johnson JR.
Sister Pipkins was employed as a waitress and housekeeper. She is the
mother of 7 children, 13 grandchildren, 55 great grandchildren and 13
great great grandchildren.
Versie was a member of the Church of the Living God for over 60 years
under the Leadership of Elders Eddie Hudson, Monroe Junior,
Otis McAlister, Henry Robinson, Cornell Davis and Overseer Jackie Stewart.
She served as a treasurer, secretary in the Bible Training Union, the
Mission Society, and the Usher Board, She enjoyed listening to her gospel
music, embroidery needlework, traveling and cooking for her family and friends.
She was famous for her homemade peach cobbler and fried chicken.
Versie is survived by her sons Lorenzo and Emile Callahan, Marvin Blackwell
and his wife Anita Blackwell and her daughters Judy and Brenda Callahan.
