Louis Acosta, beloved father, grandfather and proud veteran of the US Army, passed away September 9, 2022.
The son of Esteban and Bernardina Acosta, Louis resided in Kern County for approximately 60 years after he, his parents and siblings migrated to California in 1961. He was born on January 12, 1950 in Donna, Texas.
At the age of 19, Louis was drafted to the US Army. He served in the Vietnam War as a Light Vehicle Driver, and was honorably discharged from the Army Air Defense Command in 1971. Louis received numerous badges and medals in recognition of his service, including the Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device and National Defense Service Medal.
After his service with the US Army, Louis entered the workforce as a laborer and welder before beginning his career as a Class A Truck Driver. He married the love of his life, Carolina Hernandez, and they married in 1976. They had two beautiful children, Esteban “Steve” Alejandro and Patricia “Tricia” Nina.
Louis is survived by his son, Esteban (India), and grandchildren Brianna Acosta, Desi Solis, Jaclyn Solis and great- grandchildren Amorie and Aiden. Also, siblings Mary Juarez (Hector), Daniel Acosta (Sally), Dennie Acosta, and Gloria Armendariz (Roel) and numerous nieces and nephews. Louis will be reunited with his parents, brother Peter Acosta (Clara), as well as his daughter who passed in 2006 and wife in 2010.
For those wishing to pay their respects and share memories of Louis, a visitation will be held on Thursday, September 22nd from 4-8 PM at Basham and Lara Funeral Care, in Shafter. A graveside service honoring the life of Louis Acosta will be held on Friday, September 23rd at Bakersfield National Cemetery at 10:45 AM.
